About Makefield Hearth & Home.
Makefield Hearth & Home was founded in 1993 by Paul Cangemi, who had already been working with masonry and chimneys for years. During his first five years in business, Paul and his small team of sweeps worked on a wide variety of chimney and masonry jobs, gaining hands-on experience in cleaning, inspection and repair on homes of every age and condition.
As time went on, Paul and his team grew eager to learn as much as possible about their craft — attending seminars and education courses from both the local and National Chimney Sweep Guild (NCSG). Then in 1999, the team became certified by the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA), which sets the national standard for the chimney sweep industry.
Soon, Makefield Hearth & Home also gained a reputation for being chimney and fireplace restoration experts, specializing in historical restorations. The team has worked on a variety of historical projects across Bucks County and beyond. When it comes to preserving and restoring historical fireplaces and chimneys, the team at Makefield Hearth & Home has proven, time and again, that they know their stuff.
“If you can't put your name on the work and stand next to it twenty years later, you shouldn't be doing the work.”
Historical work is our quiet specialty.
Bucks County is full of homes older than the country — fieldstone farmhouses, Federal-era townhomes, Victorian rectories. Their chimneys were built by hand and they need to be repaired by hand. We've spent decades matching historic lime mortars, sourcing the right reclaimed brick, and rebuilding fireboxes the way the original masons would have.
We've completed restorations for the Bucks County Historical Society, the Yardley Historic District, and dozens of private homeowners who care about their houses the way we do.
